April 1, 2020—No, this is not an April Fools joke. During this pandemic, government agencies have taken clear action including in off-road vehicle areas. Changes that affect San Diego residents include:

  • Cleveland National Forest has closed Corral Canyon, including Bear Valley Road.
  • California State Parks has closed all 280 units, including Ocotillo Wells SVRA.
  • BLM:
    • Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area–the following sites within the recreation area are closed:
      • All campgrounds and areas adjacent to Gecko Road (including Cement Flats, all camping pads, Gecko Campground, Keyhole Campground, and Roadrunner Campground)
      • Osborne Overlook Day Use and Camping Area
    • Lark Canyon Off-Highway Vehicle Day Use Area
    • Lark Canyon Upper and Lower Campgrounds

Trails and open areas managed by the BLM are still open, including dispersed camping. While the governor and president have issued stay at home orders, the BLM will not currently chase you out of their land.
