October 6, 2022—The Johnson Valley Shared Use Area will remain open to the public during the previously scheduled closure on February 17 through 27, 2023. The Marine Corps schedules closures of the Shared Use Area based on consideration of global resources, training and deployment schedules, and pre-deployment training requirements. The training exercise that will occur over this period has been refined to meet specific training objectives and requires a smaller footprint than a typical Service Level Training Exercise. In the spirit of supporting maximum public recreation in the Shared Use Area, the Marine Corps has elected to not temporarily close the area, keeping it open for public use during this time period.

While the Shared Use Area will remain open to the public during this time, training activity will be underway within Combat Center boundaries and Marine units will safely transit through the Shared Use Area. Please exercise awareness of all boundaries and avoid military vehicles maneuvering through the area. In addition, Johnson Valley Shared Use Area closure dates for fall 2023 have been adjusted. Please note that the area will now be closed to the public from August 18 through 28, 2023. These dates replace the previously announced closure period of August 25 through September 4, 2023.
