ATVs: Helmets required. Riders under 17 need ATV Safety Training. Riders under 14 require parental supervision. Riders need to be able to reach hand and foot controls. No passengers on ATVs unless they were designed for it. Some areas require a whip with orange flag (Ocotillo Wells, Imperial Sand Dunes and Dumont Dunes).

UTVs (side by sides): Helmets required. Back seats may not be added to 2014 models and later. Seatbelts are required.

All vehicles: Spark arrestors and registration required on all public land. Lights required after dark.

Alcohol rules apply equally on road and off.

If your driving privilege is revoked, you cannot drive off-road.
