December 15, 2020—The United Desert Gateway & L.A.N.D.S. organization announce the cancellation of next year’s annual Sand Dunes Cleanup. This event, which has been held every Martin Luther King Jr. weekend for the last 22 dunes seasons, is a significant event on every duner’s calendar and important for the sustainability of the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area, helping keep the dunes clean and open for all to enjoy. Due to the circumstances of the past year, and the inability to have large group gatherings, the organizations have made the difficult decision to cancel the event for 2021. It is their sincere hope that the coming year will bring significant changes, allowing us to consider an event in 2022.
